Six key energy issues presidential candidates should address

AFIEGO wrote to the organizers of the January 15, 2016 presidential debate at Serena International Conference Centre, advising them to ask the Candidates five key energy issues necessary to improve the energy sector in Uganda. The key issues include: the need to reduce power tariffs to improve investment and business conditions; the need to ensure transparency in licensing and power purchase agreements regarding power projects; the need to amend and strengthen the independence of electricity regulatory institutions such as ERA; the need to establish a regulator for petroleum products such as fuel pump prices; and the need to put in place a new law for land acquisition, assessment and payment of adequate compensation for oil and other energy related developments.
